Weeping Willow (salix repens 'boyd's pendula')
Aka Alpine Willow. This weeping pussy willow originally introduced from China is now found throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Willow is an old world tree, much celebrated in poetry. Twigs and branchlets divide into thin stems that hang in pendulous curtains to the ground.
Gold Thread Cypress (chamaecyparis pisifera 'filifera aurea' nana)
Miniature evergreen tree with thread-like foliage that has spreading pendulous branches. Brilliant sunshine yellow color and produces cones 1/2" long. Outstanding highlight in any bonsai collection. Hardy. Keep outdoors. 7 years old. 9"-11" tall.
Mugo Pine-Medium (Pinus Mugo "valley cushion")
Dwarf evergreen with dense growth habit. Dark green needles adorn upright branches throughout the year. Slow grower. Hardy to -50 degrees F. Like the Japanese Maples, keep outdoors. 8 years old 5" - 6" tall Suitable 6" x 8" humidity tray is recommended. To purchase add $3.50.
Purple Beech (fagus sylvatica 'purpurea')
Also known as Copper Beech. A great colorful addition to any bonsai collection. Has leaves that are reddish or purple. The purple color leaves turn to a bronzy green in the summer heat. Has smooth grey bark. Leaves turn red/brown in fall and hang on the tree well into winter.
Redwood (metasequoia glyptostroboides)
Really the most exciting of the Redwoods is the Dawn Redwood, a native of Manchuria China. Thought to be extinct, but re-discovered in the 1940's. The Dawn Redwood is a true Redwood.
Japanese Beech (fagus crenata)
Native to Japan where it is used extensively for bonsai. Has 2" long x 1" wide foliage that is a little more oval than the European Beech. The foliage turns brown in autumn and remains on the tree until spring when new growth pushes off the old leaves.
Camellia (camellia oleifera)
Autumn flowering evergreen with large single pink 31/2" pink blooms. Has glossy drak blue-green leaves with a loose arching habit. Keep outdoors and protect from winter winds. Hardy to -5F. 8 years old. 14"-16" tall. Suitable 8"x6" humidity tray is recommended. To purchase add $3.
Colorado Blue Spruce (picea pungens glauca)
Conifer (cone bearing) tree with distinctive blue-green evergreen needles. The tree color can vary from dark green through all shades of blue-green to powderwhite blue. Keep outdoors. Prefers full sun. 8 years old. 18"-21" tall. Suitable 8"x6" humidity tray is recommended.
Weeping Pussy Willow (salix caprea 'kilmarnock')
A delightful mini Weeping Pussy Willow tree. In early spring the branches are covered with large, fluffy, silvery catkins followed by studded golden anthers. Lovely green foliage follows. Grafted head onto rootstock.
Japanese Larch (larix leptolepsis)
Also known as 'Larix Kaempferi'. The very beautiful Larch is an unusual genus, one of the handful of decideous conifers which is very popular among bonsai growers around the world.
